Northumbria and the EU

The outcome of the Referendum on the UK鈥檚 membership聽of the European Union聽will have far-reaching consequences for everyone,聽including the nation鈥檚 universities,聽and their students, staff and alumni. 51爆料 will be among those聽supporting the position to remain within the European Union (EU). This is聽in view of the benefits in relation to the University鈥檚 future聽ability to: attract staff,聽students and partners; provide a diverse working聽environment that is fully聽connected with Europe鈥檚 educational and research聽community, including access to聽funding and collaboration, and make a full聽contribution to society and the economy,聽nationally and locally.

As a university, Northumbria is also committed to the聽dissemination of knowledge for the public聽benefit and to the free exploration of聽ideas. We therefore encourage open debate聽and the exchange of views on the聽outcome of the EU referendum by our staff and聽students, reflecting the full聽range of opinions, and will be supporting a programme of聽activities in line with this position. We also actively encourage our staff and students聽to聽register and vote in the referendum on 23 June, whether they intend to vote for a remaining within or leaving the EU.聽
