Register for the conference  (deadline 31 August 2025)

The aim of the conference is to identify key priorities for the UK Arctic science community and welcome participants from diverse career stages and disciplines. We will focus on three themes: (1) Strengths of UK Arctic science, (2) Sustainability challenges and resilience of Arctic research, and (3) Science-policy linkages. Each theme will consist of a small number of keynote talks, panel discussions and sandpit activities. The latter will be important for enabling priorities to be agreed at the conference, which will subsequently be synthesised as a policy piece.

In addition, an extended poster session in the informal setting of Wylam Brewery will guarantee everyone is able to present their research and engage in Arctic science discussion. The conference dinner will directly follow the poster session.

Why attend?

  • Hear from key figureheads in different disciplinary areas who will provide expert overviews on the state of UK Arctic science
  • Contribute to sandpit discussions on the three conference themes: (1) Strengths of UK Arctic science, (2) Sustainability challenges and resilience of Arctic research, and (3) Science-policy linkages
  • With the International Polar Year (2032-33) fast approaching, help feed into discussions mapping IPY research priorities onto future opportunities for the UK community
  • Present your own science in an extended poster session maximising opportunities for informal conversation and networking
  • Enjoy the company of other Arctic scientists at the conference dinner at Wylam Brewery and the ‘Polar Beers’ event
  • Registration costs have been kept to a minimum. For waged staff it will cost £43.50, which includes the conference dinner. For current undergraduate/Masters/PhD students it is free, also including the conference dinner! This is due to generous support from the NERC Arctic Office and the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling.

We aim to an inclusive and interdisciplinary meeting – we guarantee you will fit in whatever discipline you come from. Whether you are established in the Arctic science community or if you are interested in getting into Arctic science, we welcome you!
