Northumbria hits top 50 in national university guide

9th June 2021

Northumbria has, for the first time, secured a place inside the UK top 50 of The Complete University Guide 2022 University League Tables, published yesterday (Tuesday 8 June).

The Complete University Guide league table saw improvements in the rank of the student-staff ratio and graduate prospects, which included a strong UK ranking of 40th in the new Graduate Prospects (On-Track) metric which reflects whether recent graduates agree that their current activity fits with their future plans.

This year the guide has ranked Northumbria’s Communication and Media, Building, Counselling, Psychotherapy & Occupational Therapy, Information Technology & Systems programmes within the top 10 nationally. Nursing, Art and Design, Food Science, Manufacturing and Production Engineering all secured places within the top 20.

The Complete University Guide calculates its ratings by measuring official data relating to student satisfaction; entry standards; student-staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; research; graduate prospects and completion.

Professor Andrew Wathey CBE, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said Northumbria’s position in The Complete University Guide was further confirmation of a strategy focussed on outstanding student experiences and outcomes.

He explained: “Our focus is on making sure that when a student graduates from Northumbria, they are leaving with a meaningful degree and the skills and experience which will give them a clear path into highly skilled employment. This result recognises the progress that we are making and reflects our clear emphasis on graduate outcomes and putting our students at the heart of the University Strategy.”
