Texonomy Challenge Prize

10th May 2021

Early career researchers are being invited to apply for £7,000 of seed funding to develop innovative solutions which will enable the textile industry in Pakistan to become more sustainable.

The Texonomy Challenge Prize is seeking new ideas which will allow Pakistan’s textile industry to adapt to a circular economy, based on the principles of designing out waste and pollution and keeping products and materials in use.

Finalists will be invited to present their ideas at the British Council Funded .

The workshop takes place online from 7 – 9 June and will bring together academic and industry experts from the UK and Pakistan.

The textile industry provides employment to almost 40% of Pakistan’s total labour force and makes up almost 9% of the country’s total GDP. At the same time, Pakistan is extremely vulnerable to climate change, making it even more crucial the country’s textile industry in the country, as well as India, Bangladesh and other parts of  southeast Asian, adapt to tackle global climate challenges.

The Texonomy workshop has been organised by Dr Shahid Rasul of 51 and of Lahore University of Management Sciences.

Applications for the Texonomy challenge prize and workshop participation are open until 21 May. Visit for more information.
