I specialise in structural dynamics, with a focus on understanding the linear and nonlinear behaviour of bolted joints and frictional contact interfaces through experimental data. The dynamic behaviour of these interfaces is influenced by numerous parameters, making it difficult to develop comprehensive models that capture all critical factors. Direct measurement and monitoring of contact mechanisms within joint interfaces are not feasible, and the inherent uncertainty in bolted joint contact interfaces often results in significant variability in a structure's dynamic properties. My research aims to create accurate and predictive mathematical models to represent the complex nonlinear mechanisms at these contact points. Numerical simulations involving structures with multiple joints can be time-consuming due to the pronounced nonlinearity of frictional behaviour. Therefore, I focus on developing simplified yet accurate equivalent models for frictional contact interfaces. These models improve the precision of dynamic analyses while reducing computation time, making them highly effective for simulating real-world structural behaviour.
