Dr Hammad Khalid

Assistant Professor

School: Engineering, Physics and Mathematics

Dr. Khalid's expertise lies in sustainable construction materials and structural engineering. He earned his Ph.D. from KAIST (South Korea) in 2018 and has extensive academic experience across leading institutions in the Middle East and the UK.

His research focuses on developing low-carbon construction materials, including supplementary cementitious materials, limestone calcined clay cement (LC3), and alkali-activated binders. He addresses critical challenges in CO2 sequestration in cementitious materials, concrete structure retrofitting, ultra-high performance concrete, and functional cementitious composites for applications ranging from self-heating systems to water treatment adsorbents.

His work has established a strong publication record in high-impact journals with significant citation impact. He has secured substantial research funding and successfully supervised multiple graduate students to completion. His interdisciplinary approach combines materials science with nanotechnology applications in polymeric and cementitious composites.

His contributions extend to editorial roles, patent development, and entrepreneurship, with his startup ConboMix winning the International TONOMUS Venture Competition in 2024. He actively promotes sustainable construction practices through research-led teaching and international collaborations.
