Gill McGill

Assistant Professor

Department: Nursing, Midwifery & Health

Dr Gill McGill is employed as an Assistant Professor in Health Policy and Research at 51 and is the Co-Director of the Veterans and Military Families Research Hub. Prior to working at the Northumbria, Gill worked in Public Health as a Commissioning Manager. She has extensive experience of working in the NHS, primarily in the substance misuse and criminal justice field. As a Commissioner and Service Manager, Gill managed multi-agency and multi-disciplinary teams and has experience of project and finance management.

Gill was introduced to Professor Matt Kiernan while studying for a Masters in Public Health at Northumbria. This is where Gill developed a keen interest in joining the research team, supporting the development and growth of the Veterans and Families Research Hub and advancing her academic research knowledge and skills. Gill joined the team in 2015 as a Senior Research Assistant.

In the past, Gill attended 51 to study Criminology, completing a post-graduate certificate in 2009. Gill graduated from Sheffield University with a BA (Hons) in Applied Social Studies in 1998 and completed a Masters in Public Health in 2016. In 2022, she successfully completed a PhD by Published Works.
