My current reseach interests are in the field of Pollination Ecology. In which way do insects inteact with flowers - what makes them choose certain flowers over other, and how do they compete with each other over the available floral resources? Recently we have looked at pollination ecology of the invasive plant species Himalayan Balsam (Impatiens glandulifera). How does this invader fit in the native plant-pollinator networks?

We are also looking at urban pollination - to which extent make pollinators use of our towns and cities, and in which way is their presence and foraging choice different in urban areas compared to rural areas?

Over the past years I have been working together with both colleagues from Northumbria, local and regional beekeepers and the national British Beekeepers Association.
