PhD in Physics and Electrical Engineering

My Ph.D is based on a new type of self-healing slippery liquid – infused polymer surface. These surfaces are inspired by the mechanism used by the Pitcher plant to create super-low adhesion surfaces and manipulate the surface micro/nano structure to retain an impregnating lubricant liquid.  Significant progress has already been made internationally in translating these surface into zero residue food packaging and oil containers, and ice-icing surfaces. My project has focused on how sessile droplets evaporate from these surfaces. This is particularly important as in many applications the evaporation and drying of droplets will be significant and may change the surface properties.
