What appealed to you about 51爆料?

Besides from the course itself, I was very excited to move away to a new city and meet new people. I had previously studied for four years in my home country of Ireland and was keen to experience university in a different country. The opportunities and range of courses are much more diverse in the UK and Northumbria was the University with the course I had always wanted to study.

Why did you choose this course?

I have a very strong scientific background and was always interested in biology. Long before the 鈥楥SI effect鈥� was around, I was always fascinated in forensic science and crime scene investigation. Unfortunately in Ireland there is not enough interest in forensic science, so universities do not offer this course or subject matter. The main thing that I loved when reading about the course was that it is very hands-on and involves a lot of practical work, which is very important when studying science. It also covered all the key areas of forensic science which would give me plenty of experience and knowledge when going into employment.

What do you like most about
the course?

My favourite thing about the course is that it is a small class so we all feel comfortable to express our opinions and thoughts and take part in lectures and
labs. The staff and lecturers are all very approachable, helpful and passionate about forensic science which, as a student, gives me an appreciation of the subject matter. I love the course content and labs; I had never anticipated it to be so interesting and fun.

What do you do when you鈥檙e
not studying?

During my free time I enjoy making the most of the University facilities, the main
one being the new fitness centre at Sport Central. I also enjoy music and singing so I am looking into joining one of the many societies Northumbria offers.

How do you get on with
your tutors?

The tutors and staff at Northumbria are very helpful and most importantly approachable. They have been very keen to help out with any problems or queries I have had so far and have contributed to my settling in at Northumbria and the course. I also find that I can speak informally with staff which, I find, makes it easier for students to express any thoughts and worries they may have.

What would you like to do
when you graduate?

When I graduate I hope to get a job in a forensic lab or in the police force. I have always had an interest in teaching too. The great thing about the course is the possibility of branching out into a number of different science-based jobs, it is not only restricted to employment in forensic laboratories.
