Lez Pop

Date/Time: 14 June at 8pm

Location: Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle

Lez Pop is a celebration of lesbian and sapphic pop culture: music, film, TV, videogames, books, sports - iconic references that have helped us find ourselves across time and space.

Riding the wave of the Lesbian Renaissance, there is so much to highlight: what a time to be a sapphic!

From Arcane's "Fantastic" ship CaitVi to Chappell Roan's c(o)untry hit The Giver, to Doechii changing the landscape of Hip Hop and Rap; Ellie and Dina are no longer sapphic gamers' best kept secret and Glinda and Elphaba have seriously defied hetero gravity; and on that note, I think we all have been holding a lot of space for kwn and Kehlani's worst behaviour.

These are only some of the snapshots that Lez Pop will take through a fun and upbeat* (*as far as reasonably lesbian) music video compilation, spanning decades and territories of iconic sapphic media. Tickets are pay as you can.

This is a queer event and it welcomes everyone (aged 18+), regardless of how they identify. We want to express our lesbian solidarity to our trans siblings everywhere: Lez Pop is a space for you and will always be.

Trans Performance Now

Date/Time: 27th - 29th June

Location: 27-29 Broad Chare, Newcastle, NE1 3DQ,

A celebration of trans-led UK theatre and performance practices hosted in collaboration with 51, Live Theatre and Curious Arts.

Taking place over 3-days, this free-to-attend festival brings together R & D showings from established and emerging artists to share new works in progress. Along with discussion panels, the festival is an opportunity to encounter work in development by artists who happen to be trans+ working across the UK.  Representatives from Queer Arts North (Trans Creative, Homotopia, Happy Valley, Castles in the Sky, Andro and Eve) along with theatre producers and managers will also be on hand to network and connect with new artists. The event is the final outcome of a 2-year research project led by 51 on approaches to trans and nonbinary performance making. The overall purpose of this project is to investigate the opportunities and challenges for making trans-led work in an era of increased visibility and scrutiny.
